Meet the Proclaim Interactive team!
Shelley Heinrichs, Marketing Director
Joined the team: November 2012
What is your role here at Proclaim Interactive?
S: They tell me I’m the “glue” around the marketing department! As the director, I coordinate our incredibly intelligent crew of five marketing specialists. I help the team hone their skills and think of new, effective ways to make our clients succeed online. I’m also one of our account managers, so I’m the single point of contact between the agency and our clients.
How has your role evolved since you started and what have been your favorite elements of that role?
S: I’ve been friends with Spence and Tara Hackney for many years; one night while our kids all played together at Mike’s Farm, we were chatting about all sorts of topics when Spence suddenly said, “So you know a little bit about social media?” That’s where it all started! I’ve done each of the jobs in the marketing department, but since I’m really best at just telling people what to do, they eventually made me the director.
How many pets do you have?
S: There’s Linus, the 19-pound mammoth cat, and Chloe, the 8-pound chihuahua. To make life more interesting, we also have 2 gerbils: YinYang and Brownie. For some reason, watching gerbil hyperactivity is super soothing to me. I have no idea why. Now we’re considering adding a rescue cat to the mix. Apparently, I’m running a zoo…
You’re from the west coast. Is there any California left in you or are you a true “southerner” now?
S: I just took a Southern dialect test and fared pretty poorly at only 44% Dixie. So I guess it’s harder to get the California out of me than I thought. But I have started saying “might could” and “fixin,” so that’s got to count for something, right? I love the South, and I’m fortunate to get to raise my daughters here along with my husband. We have family here as well now, so we are lucky, to say the least.
The digital marketing industry is constantly changing. What’s your favorite way to stay up-to-date with trends, algorithms, etc.?
S: I love reading blogs by industry leaders – it helps me formulate the story when I look into client data. My favorites are Hubspot, Moz, Search Engine Land, and Jeff Bullas. I’m currently reading Build Your Storybrand by Donald Miller.
What has been your favorite vacation you’ve ever taken?
S: Wow, hardest question so far. We’ve traveled quite a bit, so it’s hard to pick just one. I just returned from a trip to Jordan where I was visiting some friends. We explored Wadi Rum, Petra, and the Amman Citadel. I even floated less than gracefully in the Dead Sea.
My husband and I took our girls to Riviera Maya, Mexico for our 20th anniversary last October, and it was everything you could hope for in a beach/snorkeling/cenote-exploring kind of vacation. I keep getting Google retargeting ads from that resort, so I’m seriously thinking about booking another trip this year. Their marketing is working its magic on me!
