Why You Need A Mobile Responsive Website
Where would you place a billboard? You’d place it where it can be seen by most of your target customers: high traffic areas like freeways and busy intersections. You wouldn’t consider spending your advertising dollars by placing a billboard on a lightly traveled country road.
But if you are not utilizing a mobile responsive website, you may be doing exactly that.
If you want your business to be seen, it isn’t enough to just have a strong presence on the web. If your site is only functional or aesthetically pleasing when viewed from a PC or laptop, you’re not putting your best foot forward. If your website is not mobile responsive, you also deny your customers a way to easily and dynamically interact with you.
Two-thirds of Americans own smartphones. In addition, half of all mobile subscribers age 55 and older own smartphones. According to CNN, internet usage on mobile devices is exceeding that on PCs. For example, in January 2014, more Americans accessed the internet through smartphone and tablet apps alone than through PCs (55 percent vs. 45 percent).
Mobile responsive Design
Let’s be clear: it is not enough that your customers are merely able to access your website through mobile devices; your website should be designed with those devices in mind. According to the Search Engine Journal, 1 in 4 online searches are conducted on mobile devices, and roughly 40 percent of Americans purchase an item after scanning QR codes.
If that doesn’t grab your attention, consider this sobering statistic: 57 percent of users won’t recommend companies with poor mobile sites.
Why bother?
Here are a few more good reasons to have a mobile responsive design:
- It protects your brand
By creating a site that looks good across all sources, you ensure that your logo and your message are delivering the business philosophy you have worked hard to create. - More users are accessing the internet through a mobile device
…and if your site isn’t responsive, they will notice. With the convenience of payment apps such as Google Wallet and Apple Pay, more consumers will be making purchasing choices from their smartphones or mobile devices.
- Google likes it
Responsive design is Google’s recommended design pattern. Using it can also result in improved SEO and visibility. - It’s a better user experience
By creating a site that is mobile responsive, your users are more likely to recommend you or leave positive reviews.
