People buy from People
We’ve had a profile up on Thumbtack (have a look) for a few months now. The idea behind Thumbtack is that you can post your creative project to it and they will try to match you with people in your area who can help with the job. Honestly I was a bit skeptical at first of the service, but we’ve actually met some pretty cool clients with it. Of course, there have been a fair amount of off-the-wall requests, but hey, that is what keeps life interesting.
One thing I have taken away from using Thumbtack is that the personal relationship is still super important. I don’t think we’ve signed a deal with a client that came through Thumbtack without a phone call. My dad always said “people buy from people” and I think he is still right. In the “virtual marketplace” of today this is still worth considering. We need to figure out how to personalize and humanize our offerings at every possible opportunity. Food for thought!
Now, I am off to go and order some paper towels from Amazon so I don’t have to talk to real people at the grocery store and then sit down at Chili’s and order lunch on the a their tablet so I can skip the banter with the waiter!
